Business success often hinges on relationships—and sometimes, on chance. For Godfreys Law, a casual conversation at a networking event sparked a journey that would redefine how the firm operates. That moment led to a viewing the next morning, and eventually, to securing new premises in Central Christchurch.
What followed was an 11-month journey of strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and meticulous execution. The decision to move was made in March, and from that point, the team led by Steph Bewley dove headfirst into lease negotiations and project management. With a tight timeframe and a budget to meet, the move had to accommodate a complex three-way chain of law firm relocations. Remarkably, contractors exceeded expectations, completing their work weeks ahead of schedule, bringing the move-in date forward by two months.
By September 9th, Godfreys Law was fully settled into its new home.
Minimising Disruption, Maximising Impact
The move was more than just a change of address—it was a masterclass in Organisational Change Management. The goal? Ensure minimal disruption to staff and clients while navigating a complete transformation of the workspace.
Over one weekend, the firm transitioned seamlessly. Behind the scenes, every detail was orchestrated with precision: signage, utilities, IT systems, movers, sustainable furniture disposal, office allocations, parking, reinstating the old premises, off-site storage (yes, so many files), establish electronic filing systems, security protocols, and sub-tenancy arrangements.
But, at the heart of the move was the people.
Change can be daunting. The project focused on mitigating fear, fostering clear communication, and building trust throughout the transition. By prioritising staff wellbeing and engagement, the firm ensured that the new environment wasn’t just functional—it was empowering, and something to be proud of.
A New Chapter Begins
One year on, the impact of the move is undeniable. The new premises transformed how Godfreys Law operates, enhancing collaboration, client service, and workplace culture.
